Our Vision

Our vision is to increase the reach of Special Olympics so that every person with an intellectual disability (ID) has the opportunity, in their local community, to participate in high quality Olympic-style sport and leadership activities that bring life-changing experiences of increased skills, self-confidence and joy.

Healthy Athletes

Increasing the reach of our Healthy Athlete Programme and giving athletes access to health supports and screenings helping them in identifying and correcting any health issues e.g. on a team of 10 Special Olympics Athletes:

  • 3 will fail a hearing test
  • 2 will have low bone density
  • 5 will have significant problems with flexibility and 4 with balance, causing risk of injury
  • 6 will be overweight/obese and at risk for chronic health conditions.
