4 Munster Athletes Win Swimming Medals in Monaco
Limerick City Special Olympics Sports Club represented Ireland at the Princess Charlene European Swim Meet in Monaco during the recent October Bank Holiday weekend. A team of 4 athletes, Tara Loftus, Emma Griffin, Andy Coyne, and Brian Lowe competed in the two-day competition against athletes from 28 countries.
The athletes, accompanied by Head of Delegation Olive Coyne and Head Coach Diarmuid Maguire, and raucously supported by friends and family members, returned with two gold medals, one bronze and two 4th place results. The results were just reward for the dedication and hard work put in by all over what should have been the summer off-season.
Reflecting on the experience, Tara Loftus described carrying the Irish flag in the parade as possibly the proudest moment of her life. All four athletes are veterans of the Limerick City club and take part in multiple sports, mixing Basketball and Athletics along with their Swimming.
