North City Striders win November Gala Gifts for Clubs cash prize
We are delighted to announce the club is the November winner of the Gala Gifts for Clubs competition and has won a €500 cash prize.
North City Striders is a small but mighty club based in Dublin. Having spent the last year developing their virtual programme, the club is celebrating the joyous return to sport in-person training.
"Although the Return to Activity protocols can seem intimidating, it's actually very quick and we were back up and running in no time. I would recommend clubs take small steps, even training every second week would make a huge difference to athletes."
Linda, Club Secretary
Returning to sport (as per the government guidelines and Special Olympics Ireland Protocol) posed some challenges but North City Striders were delighted to find that any changes enforced by restrictions, in reality, have a long-term benefit for the club. Previously the club had always trained indoors but had to move outdoors to accommodate training in pods and social distancing. This has been a huge positive for the club as it now means they have access to a full-size running track and can all train together.
Even changing their original training day didn't pose a challenge and has opened up the club to the possibility of more members. Returning to activities has been overwhelmingly positive. Athletes and coaches are loving the opportunity to socialise and train together.
"It’s great to be back with friends having fun."
Ciara, Athlete"It’s making me so happy to be there each week."

The club created this wonderful video to showcase how a small club with less than 20 members can flourish with the right people involved. (Some content was captured before Covid-19 ).
