Dublin, 12th May: Leinster and Ireland Rugby Star Gordon D’Arcy joined Today FM D.J. Ian Dempsey to launch the 2010 Lifestyle Sports adidas Dublin Marathon; calling on runners, walkers and joggers across Ireland to sign up on behalf of the two official Dublin Marathon charities, Special Olympics Ireland and Barretstown.

Special Olympics Ireland hopes to raise €1 million on April 23rd . 
 
Thousands of people will take to the roads and streets of Ireland on Friday, April 23rd to shake their buckets and raise essential funding for Special Olympics Ireland. This is the biggest annual fundraising event in aid of Special Olympics and the aim is to raise €1 million in one day. No matter where you are or what mode of transport you use – train, ferry or automobile, you can contribute towards the life changing work of Special Olympics Ireland. You can donate online or make your donation by texting DONATE to 57252

Special Olympics Collection Day takes place Friday 23rd April. We will  have thousands of volunteers on the roads of Ireland shaking a bucket to help us raise €1 million in one day. If you cant make it out on the day but still want to give money you can text DONATE to 57252 to donate €2 or 85122 (NI) to donate £1.50.  Thank you for the support.

Martin Cullen TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism today (24 February 2010) recognised the contribution that over 400,000 people give to Irish sport through voluntary involvement with sports clubs and organisations all over Ireland. “Without this generous commitment the contribution that sport makes in our local communities would not happen,” said Minister Cullen.  Twelve such volunteers were honoured today at a special ceremony – the 2009 National Awards to Volunteers in Irish Sport - in Farmleigh.

Sporting Heroes Line out to Support Special Olympics Ulster Collection Day

Thursday 18th February 2010: Sports stars Mickey Harte, David Humphreys, Simon Best and broadcasting legend Gerry Kelly today attended the launch of the 2010 Collection Day in aid of Special Olympics, which hopes to raise £250,000 on April  23rd. The purpose of the launch, which took place in The Hilton Hotel in Belfast, was to  ask the people of Northern Ireland to get involved in the collection day on April 23rd, either by volunteering or donating on the day.
