LIMERICK’S double bronze medal-winning Special Olympic athlete Ashleigh O’ Hagan will be at the Crescent Shopping Centre this Saturday (Nov 28) to lend a hand to the quirky fundraiser, Cops and Donuts.

Cops and Donuts will take place from 10am to 3pm where Limerick Gardaí will erect a custom-made stand where more than 2000 delicious donuts will be sold to the public by local Gardaí, Special Olympics athletes and volunteers. The donuts cost €1 each. All proceeds will go to Special Olympics.

Ashleigh was the only Limerick athlete to represent Team Ireland at the World Games in LA last July. She won two bronze medals for gymnastics.

In total, the 88 athletes who traveled to the US brought home 82 medals, amassing 26 gold, 28 silver and 28 bronze medals. The World Games was the largest sporting and humanitarian event anywhere in the world this year.

The delicious donuts are supplied free of charge by Limerick Frozen Foods and Complete Cuisine.

10 Pin Bowling was the first Munster Area Advancement event of the season (and the 4 year cycle) and was held in The Planet, Blackpool, Cork. There were 4 clubs and services represented at this local competitive event with over 60 athletes participating- Waterford Special Olympics Clubs, Carriglea, Tramore Special Olympics Club and South Tipperary Tigers. It was a good competitive event with all athletes pushing hard to win. David Sheehan from Tramore Special Olympics Club posted a 114, which was the best score on the day. Munster Regional Director 'Eóin Ó Béara' said "the event ran extremely well, largely due to the great volunteers we had on the day. Volunteers from 'The Planet' and volunteers who give their time to supporting these area events day in day out were fantastic and were brilliantly guided by Alan Picwick, Competition Manager and Hillary Doonan, Event Manager. I would like to thank everyone for their help not only on the day but also with their help leading up to the event."    Garda Enda O'Dwyer...
