A big thank you to all our Munster crèches who participated in our Superhero Day 2015. Whether it was Batman, Superman, Buzz light year, Cinderella, Princess Fiona or Snow White, children dressed in their favourite costume to raise funds for Special Olympics and get into the Halloween spirit.

Please continue to send in your photos of the events so we can put them online to recognise all the great superheroes and princesses out there. Happy Halloween from everyone at Special Olympics Munster.

Cork members of Team Ireland enjoyed a real thrill last Thursday when they got the chance to meet Olympic silver medal champion Sonia O'Sullivan.

O’Sullivan was in her native Cobh for a meet and greet with six athletes who represented Team Ireland at the recent World Games in Los Angeles.

School children lined the streets and cheered as the athletes made their way to the newly-erected statue of the runner.

The athletes, Laura Ahern, Aoife O'Sullivan, Sean Coleman, Lisa O'Brien, Colm Monahan and Trudy Hyland, also enjoyed a visit to the Cobh Heritage Centre.

Afterwards they took a boat trip to the Irish Naval base in Haulbowline where they were treated to a guided tour and were congratulated by the head of the Irish navy, Commodore Hugh Tully.

The day was organised by Special Olympics volunteer Frank O’Brien

Munster Special Olympics hosted a coffee morning last Friday to give the local business community an opportunity to meet with some of our World Games athletes.

Aoife O’Sullivan from Ballinlough and Colm Monahan from Ballincollig attended the coffee morning complete with their kit and medals from the iconic Games in LA last July.

Staff and volunteers took up the challenge by baking a selection of delicious cakes for the event which raised more than €300 for Special Olympics.

Munster Rugby kindly donated a pair of tickets to the Munster V Connacht match in Thomond Park on November 28. They were won by Denise O’Donovan who works at Inhance Technology in Cleve Business Park on the Monohan road.
