Did you know our aim for bocce this season is to develop the sport and offer something new to athletes?  Bocce 7’s is a new concept in bocce which was recently piloted in the Connaught Region.

Team Ireland performed magnificiently to bring home bronze medals from the first ever European Special Olympics Floorball Tournament in Bludenz, Austria.

Training's back into the swing of things and I don't know about the swimmers but I'm wiped already! That break at midterm was just what the doctor ordered. Don't ask me to tell you what I did over midterm because I can't remember, I just know I slept a lot! And now it's over the work really begins...

65 athletes enjoyed a fun day at the Indoor Games event in Cappawhite Community Centre Co. Tipperary. The day got off to a great start with the Cashel brass band welcoming everyone with a medley of tunes. There was a great atmosphere of fun and enjoyment all day long and lots of family support at the event.
Geraldine Ryan Maher and her team from Scoil Aonghusa are the driving forces behind indoor games and they were supported by Event manager Martin Tierney and a group of volunteers who also were working on the Ireland Games in the summer.

Current Volunteer Opportunities Available In Our Clubs RIGHT NOW!

 

 

**Please note that a general volunteer role will cover a number of tasks including: equipment set up and tear down; registration of athletes and volunteers; inducting new volunteers; supervision of athletes between activities; serving refreshments; supervising the tuck shop**


Galaxy Club Mullingar are looking for volunteers in Badminton, Swimming and Golf. The Badminton takes place on Tuesdays 10:15 AM to 11:15 at Mullingar tennis Club

The Swimming takes place Wednesdays 2.45 to 3.30 at the pool in Mullingar Town Park.

Golf volunteering takes place at the Driving Range at Cullion Mullingar. Volunteering times depend on the availability of the volunteer.

 

 

 

 

Introduction to Coaching Practices Course

On Saturday 6th April, 11 volunteers took part in our Introduction Coaching Course held in the Sligo Grammar school. This course is run in conjunction with Coaching Ireland and is the 1st step on the coaching ladder for volunteers involved in our clubs. Participants took part in a variety of theory and practical sessions throughout the day. Thanks to the Grammar school for their continued support and the use of their excellent facilities. 

About the Connaught region

Special Olympics Connaught provides year round sports training and competition for over 1,300 adults and children with intellectual disabilities in Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Westmeath.
Numerous sports competitions and development days are held annually in 13 Olympic type sports. 
There are 73 Special Olympics clubs in the Connaught region.
The mission of Special Olympics is “to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community”.
