Athlete Leadership Programme

The Athlete Leadership Programme facilitates athletes aged 16 years old and above to experience opportunities additional to sports training and competition. Working with a volunteer mentor athletes complete training and workshops based around public speaking, volunteering, coaching and presentation skills.

Events

 In 2012-13 Special Olympics Ulster host a 14 events across the Region and require volunteers to assist in all areas including event management teams, sports roles, volunteer services, event services and media.

Volunteer Support Centre

 

The Ulster Volunteer support centre provides a vital outlet for administration support.  The Centre opens Wednesday 10am - 1pm and Thursday 10am - 8pm.  If you would be interested in joining the support centre team contact Keith Thompson on 028 90892994 or keith.thompson@specialolympics.ie.

Current Opportunities 

Sports Co-ordinators.  Special Olympics Ulster is currently seeking expression of interests for vacant Sports Co-ordinator roles in six sports.  Sports Co-ordinators in conjunction with the Regional Development Officer-Sport develop, co-ordinate and promote the sports programme in Ulster.  To download an application please click here alternatively contact Emma or Christine at the Regional Office.

Aquinas Grammar School is a basketball club that train every Monday in Aquinas Grammar School from 5-6pm. They are currently looking to recruit experienced volunteers to help out on the Club Management Team (CMT) -training for roles within the CMT can be provided through the regional office. All Stars Special Olympics Club is an athletics club that trains on Sunday afternoons in Thiepval Barracks from 2-3pm. They are currently looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to help out with the general running of the club. For more information please contact club chairperson Kate Pollock on 078742424614.

Belfast Eagles Special Olympics Club
is a golf club that trains on Sunday afternoons across a variety of different golf clubs in Belfast and Lisburn. They are currently looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to help out on the Club Management Team (CMT) - training for roles within the CMT can be provided by the regional office. Lakeland Special Olympics Club are based in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh. The athletes train in football and athletics at Erne Integrated College on Saturdays at 10am-11am. They are currently looking for volunteers to help out with all aspects of the running of the club. If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer please contact the club on 077 98687843.

North Down Special Olympics Club is an athletics club that train on Monday evenings in Bangor Grammar School from 7-8pm. They are currently looking for volunteers to help out with all aspects of running the club. For more information please contact Glenn Aiken on 07796957080.

Shimna Stars Special Olympics Club is a Basketball club that train on Tuesday evenings in Shimna Integrated College from 6.30-8pm. They are currently looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to take on the role of Secretary within the club, training for this role can be provided by the regional office. Zenith Special Olympics Gymnastics Club train on a Saturday afternoon in Newry Sports Centre from 3-4pm. They are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help run the club. Healthy Athlete Programme is designed to help Special Olympics Athletes improve their health and fitness by providing different health screenings and advice at events. We are currently recruiting health professionals and student health professionals for the Fit Feet, Special Smiles and Health Promotion elements of the programme. Special Olympics Ulster are also in the process of establishing new clubs in Antrim, Carrickfergus and Magherafelt and are seeking to recruit volunteers for the Club Management Team and a number of general volunteer roles.
